Cleaning and Restoring Wooden Furniture.

Restore life back into wooden furniture using this simple recipe.

Equal quantities of:

Vinegar
Turpentine
Boiled Linseed Oil

Measure into an old jam jar and shake vigorously. Apply with wire wool working with the grain. Wipe off the excess with a clean soft cloth.

Vinegar is an excellent cleaning agent which will cut through grease. The turpentine opens up the grain to allow the wool to absorb the oil which feed the wook. The vinegar and turps will quickly evaporate whilst the oil remains, drying more slowly. Boiled is preferable to raw linseed oil as it has been treated and will dry more rapidly.

When dry the wood can be treated with beeswax to seal and protect. Apply in the same manner with wire wool. Leave for a few minutes then rub to a sheen with a soft cloth. Apply more than one coat for extra smoothness and lustre.

You'll be surprised but the results that a few simple ingredients and some elbow grease can bring to even the most tired and shabby-looking piece of furniture.
